Bowery restaurant, Changing New York, 1935
The composition in this photograph gives it and organic flow and encourages the viewer to look into it in more depth. There is also no dead space in each part of the frame. The main subject is the man walking up the stairs, it questions who he is. Is he a barber? Has he been for a meeting? Where has he just came from ? What is at the bottom of the stairs?. This image conceals a lot of information but i find it very interesting as you start trying to imagine what is happening.
1930s urban landscape shot of New York.
Compressed telephoto effect gives the image drama and suppression. The greenish tone to it works well as you can feel the time period it was taken in.
