Denis Thorpe research

Joining the Manchester Guardian in 1974. Thorpe was told to just go out and take pictures of what ever caught his eye. Like Baker, Thorpe was also capturing the north west scene throughout the 50s-60s. The subjects he captured are similar to the subjects i look for when i am out shooting.

The composition here is highly professional. The timing in this would have been essential, This image in my opinion shows freedom and motivation that anything is possible.
In my shoots i will look to try and recreate this feel.

This simplistic but effective composition is something i aim to achieve in my shoots. The wet flags and bricks give a beautiful finish to this image. Putting a subject in the middle of a frame does usually not look good but with the child behind the mother it works.

Instantly you get the feeling of child labour by looking at this. If i can recreate a modern way of representing this i will be very pleased.

A wide view of buildings and factories would give a good perspective to my project. However my location makes this hard to do.
